This volume offers us an opportunity to appreciate a culture that the current government has chosen to cast aside and suppress. Since 1975, Vietnam has not been entirely devoid of significant cultural activity, but the postwar period has not come close to matching the cultural richness of the Southern Republic era. A small number of people within the country have become increasingly aware of this, listening to music, citing poems, and reading books from that time. Together, this volume and its predecessor create a vibrant portrait of a culture with much to offer the world and simultaneously serve as a refutation of the aspersions cast upon it by the communist government of Vietnam.
