John B. Boles is the William P. Hobby Professor Emeritus of History at Rice University, former editor of the Journal of Southern History (1983-2013), a former president of the Southern Historical Association (2016-2017), and author, among other books, of JEFFERSON: ARCHITECT OF AMERICAN LIBERTY and SEVEN VIRGINIANS: THE MEN WHO SHAPED OUR REPUBLIC.
