Happiness with Scars is an intimate and sincere work that explores emotional resilience and the idea that happiness can exist alongside pain rather than in denial of it. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese art of kintsugi-the practice of mending broken pottery with gold to honor its fractures-author Yamel Lopez suggests that past wounds do not simply vanish, but can instead be reshaped into symbols of growth, awareness, and inner strength.
Through personal reflections and lived experiences shaped by hardship, loss, and renewal, Yamel Lopez offers a thoughtful journey of healing and transformation. With openness, vulnerability, and hope, she encourages readers to accept their imperfections, find meaning within their struggles, and recognize that happiness is not separate from their scars, but deeply connected to the strength those scars represent.
