Happy Hickory began as a simple collection of memorable thoughts while I helped to raise my children. One morning, I was surprised to see a bird eating berries off the pretty little tree just on the other side of my dining room window, a Serviceberry...Serviceberry Jones! We moved, and I admired the perfect Pink Dogwood on the new property line. During coffee with friends one morning, Dennis told me his bark joke, and this is the spark that ignited completion of this book. I instructed the artist to show the outline of the Army cap Dennis wears in the bark of Dennis Dogwood Art. Everyone should plant a tree and enjoy growth together each year.
