It Was Never Just Baseball is a memoir about a summer collegiate baseball team that was never really about the games. It began with a handshake at a ballpark in Waterloo, Iowa, and a phone call years later that turned into a job nobody had trained him for: building the Alton River Dragons from nothing, one host family, one sponsor, and one recruiting phone call at a time.
Part sports memoir, part leadership story, this book is for anyone who has ever built something from scratch - a team, a business, a community - and discovered that the real reward was never the scoreboard. It's about the relationships forged under pressure, the lessons learned in losing seasons, and the legacy that outlasts the final out.
