After Danny Meadow Mouse inadvertently hitches a ride on an airplane, he lands near a beach in coastal Massachusetts where he soon encounters Reddy Fox. With Reddy as his initial guide, and later Graywing the Gull, Danny and his friends Reddy Fox and Jimmy Skunk encounter dozens of kinds of birds new to them, as well as an assortment of shellfish, crabs, jellyfish, and other wonders of the seaside.
