The Rural Road is rooted in the foundations of meaningful living. It's about land, love, and loss, and their gradual unfolding in a place of particular beauty. The poems reflect one woman's relationship with the fields and farming alongside creatures both biddable and wild. Her marriage, the loss of her mother, and her own aging are observed with both honesty and directness. The book is a country untilled; in three parts, the author offers the reader an invitation into moments of both grace and grief. There are seventeen poems here, celebrating green Northwest Washington; they are about lambs born, love lost and found, and a life lived in a unique rural landscape.
