For decades, people have debated the strange link between Leon Trotsky's followers and the rise of Neoconservatism-but rarely has the full story been told. This book cuts through myths and half-truths, tracing how Trotsky's disciples in the U.S. shifted from revolutionary socialism to shaping Republican foreign policy. Clear, factual, and timely, Trotsky and the Neoconservatives reveals the real history behind a debate that still echoes in politics today. Caleb Maupin brilliantly explains the lineage from Trotskyism to Max Shachtman, Irving Howe, Irving Kristol, James Burnham, Jeane Kirkpatrick, Anne-Marie Slaughter, Carl Girshman, C.L.R. James, Bayard Rustin, Michael Harrington, George Meany, and many others. How is it possible for DC war hawks to trace their roots back to a Bolshevik who led the Red Army? It makes perfect sense, and Caleb Maupin puts the pieces all together.
