WEIRD HIGHWAY CALIFORNIA

ROUTE 66 HISTORY AND HAUNTINGS, LEGENDS AND LORE

Route 66 began in downtown Chicago and stretched all the way to Los Angeles, coming to an end at the Pacific Ocean. For millions of people who once "motored west," just hearing the name brings back a flood of memories of family vacations and places that vanished decades ago. But as time passes and Route 66 celebrates 100 years, there are fewer people left who traveled the famous highway during its heyday.

And while many of us have been lucky enough to make the Route 66 journey in recent years, we know it's not the same as it was in its glory days - but we love it anyway. We love the history, the nostalgia, roadside attractions, diners, and remaining relics that make us slow down when the rest of the world is moving faster than ever before.

In the final book in his "Weird Highway" series, Troy Taylor offers a link to the past, to the days of station wagons, two-lane highways, lunches at roadside tables, greasy-spoon diners, and roadside stands. He conjures up images of souvenir shops, tourist traps, cozy motor courts, and cheesy roadside attractions that have crumbled into dust. He revives dreams of rusty steel bridges, flickering neon signs, classic cars, and drive-in theaters -- and offers a few chills when it comes to stories of ghosts, haunted hotels, roadside spirits, mysterious vanishings, and bewildering anomalies, too.

This isn't just another Route 66 book - it's a thrilling trip to places you've likely forgotten and filled with stories you've never heard before. So, climb in, turn up the radio, and take a trip back in time that you're never going to forget!
